21B-West Fishing Plan Update
The Natural Resources Directorate has drafted a fishing plan for a proposed fishery in an area West of 21B. To date, this fishing plan has not been approved.
The NRD is committed to further enhancing of our capacity to govern our own fishery by extending the 21B into the Listuguj Lobster Law framework, which also includes:
- Ongoing community engagement to ensure the plan reflects community vision.
- Working with Public Security Directorate and Rangers to ensure community members remain safe on the water in any future 21B-west fishery.
- Conduct science and community knowledge research to monitor lobster health.
- Continuing negotiations with Fisheries and Ocean Canada via the Rights Reconciliation Agreement for the benefit of Listuguj.
